Graves¡¯ Orbitopathy
Yoon Jin-Sook

Abstract
Graves¡¯ orbitopathy (GO) is an autoimmune disease associated with Graves¡¯ hyperthyroidism and affecting the orbital and periorbital tissues. Although the pathogenesis of GO is not clearly understood, thyroid-stimulating hormone receptor antigen expressed on orbital fibroblasts and thyroid follicular cells is considered to be a target co-antigen. Manifestation of GO is proptosis, conjunctival chemosis, periorbital edema, altered ocular motility, and vision-threatening compressive optic neuropathy, all of which bear significant functional, social, and cosmetic consequences. Therefore, appropriate timely therapeutic management should be applied depending on the phase of GO.
